About me
I’m a fully qualified integrative counsellor, which means that I’m trained to support you by using a variety of approaches that best suit your needs. I believe this works well because your needs may well change over time, and I can be flexible enough to respond to those needs appropriately and tailor my approach to suit you best. I’m transparent about how I work and I try to communicate as clearly as possible, as I’m very conscious of what an impact language can have. The main approaches I use are person-centred, existential and psychodynamic – if you’d like a description of what these terms mean, take a look here: https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy/
My main aim is to allow a relationship to form between us that is above all warm, trusting and non-judgemental, to enable you to focus on your feelings, develop your self-awareness and achieve your full potential. You are at the centre of everything we do, and the sessions are always led by what you want to talk about. I am committed to equality, diversity and inclusivity in my practice, and I view you as a unique individual who is an expert in your own life and experience, while recognising the impact your culture and background has had on your development.
In addition to working with individuals aged 16 and above, I am now welcoming couples and relationships in all their forms: male-female, non-binary and LGBTQ+ relationships, polyamorous and non-traditional partnerships, families, and beyond.
I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means that I am bound by their ethical framework. Ethics, privacy and confidentiality are issues I take really seriously, as I know they are important for building trust. My privacy policy is available on request.
Alongside my private practice, I have worked as a counsellor at Tenterden Counselling Service, which supports clients in the local community through longer-term psychotherapeutic relationships, and in a volunteer capacity for patients and their families at Hospice in the Weald in Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells.
I have experience of developing and maintaining strong and trusting relationships with people from a range of different backgrounds, cultures and experiences, supporting them with a wide range of issues, including death, grief and bereavement; family, marriage and relationship concerns; anxiety and depression; money worries; work and career problems; sex, gender and sexuality; loneliness; going through transitional stages; ageing; sexual and emotional abuse; intercultural difficulties; and identity.
I hold a Diploma in Integrative Counselling, a Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling, a Postgraduate Diploma in Coaching Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Sociology – qualifications I have gained in the UK, Finland and Germany. This varied, multicultural background gives me a wider perspective and can add a different dimension to our relationship.
